Fish_for_dinner_300There is nothing better than gathering with a group of loved ones and enjoying a nice meal at home. That is until the next day when you realized your lovely dinner party is still wafting through the air.

Bacon, fish, curry, garlic – these are all very yummy things to cook but many at home chefs tend to shy away from these delicious treats because the smell can linger in curtains, on your clothes, and your carpets for days.

Until now.

Here are 5 awesome tricks from our friends over at The Kitchn that are cheap and easy ways to say bye-bye to cooking odor.

Shut bedroom and closet doors while cooking.

According to The Kitchn, “Closing bedroom and closet doors before cooking anything smelly or greasy ensures that you won’t have to fall asleep in a bed that smells like bacon.”

Ventilate however you can.

Open a window, turn on the vent or a fan, an air filter or even the air conditioner, just make sure you have a way to get the odors outside.

Clean up spills and splatters ASAP.

Wash the dishes and wipe up any stinky spills or splatters as soon as you can. As The Kitchn points outs, “There’s nothing worse than waking up to a pan full of stinky oil sitting on the stove.”

Simmer your favorite spices.

Throw cinnamon sticks, cloves and citrus peels in a pot of water  on the stove and let simmer to create an all-natural air freshener.

Soak up the stink.

Leave a bowl of vinegar, baking soda or coffee grounds on the counter overnight and you will wake up with a fresh smelling home.
